Vidyasagar Upadhyay, born in 1948 in Rajasthan, is a distinguished artist and educator whose work has earned him recognition both in India and internationally. He completed his MFA in painting from the University of Udaipur in 1970 and later earned a Ph.D. in painting from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. Throughout his career, Upadhyay has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in significant group shows worldwide. He also taught Fine Art at the Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur, where he found inspiration from his childhood drawing teacher and surroundings, shaping his artistic vision.
A recipient of the National Award for Painting in 1981 and the All India Award by the UP State Akademi in 1984, Upadhyay has contributed extensively to the art community. He served as an executive board member for the National Akademi of Fine Art, New Delhi, and has curated numerous exhibitions. His works are housed in private and government collections, and he actively collaborates with NGOs in Rajasthan to support social and cultural causes. He continues to live and work between Jaipur and Udaipur.
